The Alchemy’s well performed young sire Gitano Hernando is set to have his first runner at Turffontein on Saturday.
Super Sharp, trained by Corne Spies, has accepted to run in the very first maiden juvenile plate over 800m of 2015-2016, with this Maine Chance Farms bred filly set to be opposed by seven other juveniles.
Out of the Model Man mare Supreme Prospect, Super Sharp was a R120 000 buy from this year’s National Yearling Sale.
Gitano Hernando, who hails from the same male line as former champion sire Silvano, was an outstanding racehorse, who won major races in four different countries.
The son of French Derby winner Hernando won more than $2 million in prize money, with his major victories including the G1 Goodwood Stakes and G1 Singapore Airlines International Cup.
Gitano Hernando is from a powerful female line, and is a direct descendant of the tap-root mare, Admiration. The latter is the dam of one of the greatest mares in history Pretty Polly, whose 22 wins included the 1000 Guineas, Oaks and St Leger.
Gitano Hernando’s dam, Gino’s Spirits, was a smart racemare in her own right, winning 9 races, including the Gr3 Noble Damsel Handicap and she is also the dam of promising British performer Battersea.
Her granddam, Mrs McArdy, won the English 1000 Guineas, and has become the ancestress of a flood of stakes winners, including Champion 2YO Colt, Admire Cozzene.
This is also the family of current high class performer Toormore.
