First runners for Dan De Lago, Pathfork

Two exciting young Cape sires will be represented by their first runners at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Both The Alchemy’s Dan De Lago and Highlands Farm’s Pathfork are set for their first ever racecourse representatives –with Dan De Lago having a pair of daughters, Desert Dreamer and Miss Stake, both entered in the 800m maiden juvenile plate.

Former Irish champion Pathfork will also have a runner in Saturday’s race, in the form of the Riyo Stud bred colt On The Right Path.

Desert Dreamer and Miss Stake were both bred by The Alchemy, who stand Dan De Lago.

A really well performed and well bred horse, the Australian bred sire won five times from 1400-2400m. Dan De Lago scored his biggest win in the G2 Gold Circle Derby, where the well bred colt accounted for G1 Singapore Airlines International Cup winner Lizard’s Desire by two lengths, with champions Aslan and In Writing further back. He also ran second to ill-fated champion and Vodacom Durban July winner Big City Life in the G1 Daily News 2000 –where he again beat Lizard’s Desire.

He shares his champion Aussie sire Encosta De Lago with the ill-fated sire sensation Northern Meteor, who left behind six G1 winners in a brief innings at stud.
Out of a G1 placed daughter of sire legend Danehill, Dan De Lago is from the same female line as former champion Australian sire and G1 Golden Slipper winner Marscay.

Pathfork, sire of On The Right Path, was an outstanding performer, and Ireland’s Champion 2YO Colt of 2010.
Unbeaten at three, he emulated outstanding sires Sir Ivor, Roberto, El Prado and Dubawi by landing Ireland’s most prestigious 2yo race –the G1 National Stakes.

From the all conquering Mr Prospector male line, Pathfork is by Champion US Sire Distorted Humor, sire of 15 G1 winners to date –including Kentucky Derby/Preakness winning champion Funny Cide.
Distorted Humor is a proven sire of sires, with sons Flower Alley siring Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another and another son, Any Given Saturday, the 2015 Breeders Cup winner Mongolian Saturday.

Bred on the same Distorted Humor/Sadler’s Wells cross as G1 winners Aesop’s Fables and Cursory Glance, Pathfork is from the great Best In Show family, responsible for such champion sires as El Gran Senor, Northern Guest Redoute’s Choice and Try My Best (the latter himself responsible for the hugely influential sire Last Tycoon).
