First stakes winner for Biarritz

Rosedene Stud’s well performed young stallion Biarritz has made the perfect start to his stud career.
Biarritz, whose first crop are now two, has been represented by just one runner to date, but has a remarkable 100% stakes winners to runners!
His sole runner to date is the Sandown Stud bred filly Anglet, who became Biarritz’s first black type winner when winning Saturday’s Listed Irridescence Stakes at Kenilworth.
Anglet, a R180 000 buy from last year’s Cape Ready To Run Sale, made it three wins from just four outings when she defied top weight to land the Irridesence Stakes.
Involved in a titanic duel with eventual runner up Nordic Wind (to whom Angelet was conceding 2kgs), the Biarritz filly prevailed by a short head.

Produced by the Kitalpha mare Fennella, Anglet could now be aimed at the Gr1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas next season.
She also continued the great run of success enjoyed by Sandown –breeders of not only Anglet, but also leading July hope French Navy, and recent Listed Stormsvlei Mile winner Crystal Cavern. The latter finished a good third in Saturday’s Listed Winter Oaks and looks a really nice prospect for the future.

Biarritz's relative Red Ransom

Anglet’s sire Biarritz, a son of French Navy’s sire Count Dubois, was a top class racehorse, whose seven wins included the Gr2 Gauteng Guineas, and Gr3 London News Stakes. Also successful in Dubai, Biarritz was also placed in all of the Gr1 Premier’s Champion Stakes, Gr1 Horse Chestnut Stakes, Gr2 GommaGomma Dingaans and Gr2 November Handicap.

From the powerful Gone West male line, Biarritz is an own brother to the high class filly Countess Corlia, winner of the Gr3 Champagne Stakes. His dam, Corlia’s Bid (by Danzig’s July Cup winning son Polish Patriot), is a three time winning half sister to the Gr2 Majorca Stakes winner Outstanding Star, herself the dam of classic winner and Dubai feature race winner Kapil.

Biarritz’s fourth dam is the brilliant racemare Liberal Lady, whose 17 wins included the G2 Lowther Stakes. This is also the same family of the now deceased leading sire Red Ransom.
