The Alchemy’s well performed young sire Gitano Hernando got off the mark, when 2yo Los Ninos (who hails from his sire’s first crop) broke his maiden by 5.25 lengths, when successful over 1200m on Monday.
Bred by Mr Schalk and Mrs Claire le Roux, Los Ninos is out of the four time winning Becker mare Autograf.
His sire Gitano Hernando was an outstanding racehorse, whose seven wins included the G1 Goodwood Stakes and G1 Singapore International Cup.
Also successful in the G3 Diamond Stakes, Gitano Hernando banked over $2 000 000 during a career which saw him compete in major races in all of Britain, Dubai, Ireland, Singapore and the United States.
From the same male line as leading South African sire Silvano, Gitano Hernando is a son of former French Derby winner Hernando, whose top offspring also include the French Derby winners Holding Court and Sulamani, as well as Epsom Oaks heroine Look Here.
Gitano Hernando, whose third dam won the 1000 Guineas, is out of the top class racemare Gino’s Spirits, whose nine wins included the G3 Noble Damsel Handicap.
This is also the family of successful sire Citidancer, champion Admire Cozzene and G1 winning 2yos Seazun and Toormore.
Gitano Hernando traces back directly in female line to Mirawala, the second dam of St Leger winner and champion sire Tehran.
Six of Gitano Hernando’s first juveniles have either won or finished in the money, and this tally looks sure to grow substantially in the coming months.
