Reigning champion sire Captain Al had yet another great run of success this weekend. The seven times champion sire of 2yos was represented by no fewer than five individual winners, with this tally including a treble at Kenilworth, as well as a smart looking 3yo feature race winner at Turffontein.
This feature race winner came in the form of Val Et Al, who scored a smart win in Saturday’s Betting World KZN Win A Car Draw Egoli Mile, defeating a classy field of 3yos in the process.
Bred by Avontuur, Val Et Al made it three wins from just 6 starts when romping home to win the 1600m contest by three and a quarter lengths, and this well bred gelding looks destined for bigger and better things.
Owned by Messrs D and TJ Shawe, Val Et Al was a R700 000 purchase from the 2014 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
He was one of five weekend winners for Captain Al, whose three winners at Kenilworth on Saturday included Tide Is Turning (Race 4), Sublime Lady (race 7) and Captain Splendid (Race 8). Captain Al’sl daughter Missmasala completed her sire’s five-timer when scoring over 1600m at Scottsville on Sunday.
Captain Al is also broodmare sire of the brilliant 2yo, and Klawervlei bred colt, Flying Myth, who made a stunning debut when winning Saturday’s Listed Betting World Mpumalanga Win A Car Draw Storm Bird Stakes. Captain Al’s broodmare daughters are really now making their mark, with Captain Al featuring as the damsire of such top class performers as Potent Power, Same Jurisdiction, Flash Drive, Hot Affair, Door Of Deception and now Flying Myth as well.
Captain Al, sire of South Africa’s all time top priced yearling filly sold at public auction, has one lot on offer at the March Yearling Sale –a brother to 2 winners, this colt is out of a three time winning daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar (by Danehill) from the family of breed shaping sires Danehill, Halo, Machiavellian and Northern Dancer.
The former Cape Guineas winner, whose 2yos this season include exciting fillies Cloth Of Cloud and The Secret Is Out, has 17 yearlings on offer at next month’s National Sale –including a three parts sister to champion Princess Victoria and own sister to G2 winner Princess Royal (Lot 264), full siblings to high class stakes winners Albert Mooney, Wheredowego and Victorian Secret (Lots 419, 257 and 347) and a filly out of SA Oaks winner Arcola (Lot 446).
