Fourth G1 win for Trippi daughter

The Drakenstein Stud bred and owned Inara picked up the fourth Grade One win of her illustrious career when she scored an impressive win in Saturday’s G1 L Jaffee Empress Club Stakes at Turffontein.
Inara, who has now won her last two in a row –having previously scored in the G1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes, was given a superb ride by regular rider Grant Van Niekerk.
Just off the front running Vino Veritas early on, Van Niekerk wasted no time on his gallant mount in the home stretch, and Inara ran on strongly to hold off a wall of challenges and prevail in the 1600m contest.

The filly, who scored her seventh win on Saturday, scored by a comfortable length from outsiders Sensible Lover and Intergalactic, who were back in second and third respectively, and stopped the clock in a time of 100.32.

To date, Inara has won five graded races, with her notable placings including a runner up finish in the 2014 G1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas, and a runner up finish in the 2016 G1 Maine Chance Farms Paddock Stakes (to Met winner Smart Call). Saturday’s big race win pushed her earnings to over R3.27 million.

Inara, who has been entered in the 2016 G1 Vodacom Durban July, has a full brother, lot 224, on offer at the upcoming National Yearling Sale –and he looks sure to prove hugely popular!

Her sire Trippi is enjoying another superb season in 2015-2016, with his runners having now won no fewer than 13 black type wins. Among the notable feature races won by Trippi’s offspring this season are the above mentioned G1 Empress Club Stakes, G1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes, G2 Victory Moon Stakes, G2 Cape Merchants, and G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes.

The magnificent son of End Sweep (whose offspring have earned more than such top class international sires as Curlin, Mineshaft and War Front) also proved popular at last Friday’s Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale, where his yearlings fetched up to R900 000.

Trippi also has a high class draft on offer at the upcoming National Yearling Sale, where his nine yearlings include a colt out of G2 winner Hawker Hunter (Lot 129), a filly whose stakes winning dam is out of Horse Of The Year Ilha Da Vitoria (Lot 142) and a full brother to the above mentioned Inara, who has earned over R2.6 million thus far (Lot 224).
