French feature for Jackson relative

African Ride, a close relative of Highlands Farms Stud’s exciting young sire Jackson, stamped himself a potential candidate for bigger and better things when landing the Listed Prix Montenica at Chantilly on Thursday.

The son of Candy Ride took his tally to two wins from just four outings when scoring a length victory in Thursday’s 1300m Listed feature for trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias and the Wertheimer family.

African Ride, who was keen in the running and fought hard early on in the Prix Montenica, had previously won his last outing by five lengths and looks a progressive three-year-old in the making.

His trainer said of the win, ““He’s not an easy horse and we’d hoped for some cover, but that didn’t work out and he was quite keen. I was a little worried in the home straight, but he managed to get a breather and was able to come again so that was a satisfactory performance. We’ll give him some more education at home, maybe with a lead horse in his work, and I imagine the [Apr. 10 G3] Prix Djebel [atMaisons-Laffitte] will be his next run.”

Jackson 1

African Ride is out of La Lorgnette Stakes winner Paiota Falls (by Kris S), whose third dam is the great broodmare No Class.

No Class, also ancestress of US champion sire Smart Strike and successful, but ill-fated South African sires Strike Smartly and Sail From Seattle, is also fourth dam of classic winner and triple G1 winner Jackson, whose first crop are now yearlings.

A son of Dynasty, Jackson has 11 lots on this weekend’s March Yearling Sale –including a filly from the same family as 1000 Guineas winner Sleepytime (Lot 17), a colt out of a stakes winning daughter of champion sire Captain Al (Lot 78), a filly out of G1 Empress Club Stakes runner up True Match (Lot 144) and a filly from the same family as Guineas winners Shadow Dancing and Captain Al (Lot 151).

The former G1 Investec Cape Derby winner also has a strong draft on offer at the 2017 National Yearling Sale. Jackson’s NYS draft of nine includes a filly out of a four time winning ½ sister to G1 winner African Appeal (Lot 99), a ¾ sister to G2 Fillies Guineas winner Alexis (Lot 147), a half-brother to five time stakes winner Principled Man (Lot 261), and a ¾ sister to G2 winner Demanding Lady (dam of the recent R6 million yearling) (Lot 367).
