Golden Touch Thoroughbred Services had a pleasant surprise recently when their well related mare Velvet’s Reflection produced this stunning colt foal.
A grandson of the mighty Galileo, the colt is by former Listed Durbanville Cup winner Galileo’s Night, who is currently serving as the teaser at Drakenstein Stud. A five time winner, who also ran third in the Listed Settlers Trophy, Galileo’s Night is a beautifully related stallion.
Not only is he a son of multiple champion sire Galileo (whose 50 plus G1 winners include the undefeated legend Frankel, as well as the successful sires New Approach and Teofilo), but Galileo’s Night hails from an outstanding female line.
A half brother to a number of smart winners, Galileo’s Night’s half siblings include G3 Prix Du Cap heroine Croc Valley as well as the G3 performer Komatipoort.
Galileo’s Night’s second dam is the talented Green Dancer mare Gharam, who was third in the G1 French 1000 Guineas of her year, and this is the family of Australian Horse Of The Year Jeune and G1 Flamingo Stakes winner Talinum. Galileo’s Night’s third dam is none other than First Bloom –France’s Champion 2YO Filly of 1971.
Galileo’s Night had previously sired one other foal, but unfortunately it died as a foal. However, the stud was impressed by the sire’s first produce and Gary and Jackie Joliffe decided to use this well bred son of Galileo on two of their mares. One of these mares is La Pirouette –a full sister to former G1 J&B Met winner La Fabulous, and the other being Velvets Reflection. The latter is an own sister to the high class racemare Reflective Image, whose five wins included the G2 Sceptre Stakes. Sadly, Velvet’s Image, dam of Reflective Image and Velvets Reflection, recently died, but hopefully through the deeds of her daughters at stud, “Velvet’s” legacy can continue down the years.
The newly born colt foal has been named Letsbefrank –with connections clearly hoping the Frankel connection continues!
