Gitano relative scores at Goodwood

Toormore, who hails from the same family as The Alchemy’s exciting young sire Gitano Hernando, scored a gutsy win in the G2 Qatar Lennox Stakes on day one of the 2015 Qatar Goodwood Festival.

Given a fine, front running ride by jockey James Doyle, Toormore kept finding more in the final furlong of the 1400m contest, prevailing by three parts of a length over recent G3 Jersey Stakes hero Dutch Connection. Zabeel Mile hero Safety Check was another head away in third place.

Former Group 1 winning 2yo Toormore (by Arakan) has now won or placed in nine of his 12 outings and has amassed prize money of over £645 000. His previous win include the G1 National Stakes, and G3 Craven Stakes, while Toormore has also been placed in three G1 races to date.

He is out of the Danetime mare Danetime Out, who is also the dam of the high class performer Estidhkaar (winner of the G2 Superlative and G2 Champagne Stakes last year).

Danetime Out is a direct descendant of the important mare Blue Sash, herself also the ancestress of $2 million earner and dual G1 winner Gitano Hernando.

The latter, whose first crop race in 2015-2016, has one lot on offer at next week’s CTS August 2YO Sale – a filly whose dam (a three parts sister to high class performer Silvano) is a half sister to two stakes winners.

Gitano Hernando’s five lots on offer at the National 2YO Sale include a colt out of a winning half sister to Horse Of The Year Celtic Grove (Lot 98), a half brother to the useful stakes placed filly Jolly Poppins (Lot 109), a filly from the family of champion filly Paita (Lot186), a filly whose high class relatives include the brilliant G1 winner Ashtontown (Lot224), and a filly out of a winning half sister to G1 winning miler National Spirit (Lot 336).
