Gr1 boost for impeccably bred mare
The Cheveley Stud based mare, Making Whoopee, received a huge boost for her already impressive pedigree page on Saturday.
Her half-sister, O’Marilyn, captured the Gr1 Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes at Awapuni over the weekend to stamp herself as one of the leading juveniles in New Zealand. O’Marilyn (by champion New Zealand sire O’Reilly) has now won twice from just six outings and earned over NZ $297 000 in prize money.
Remarkably, O’Marilyn is the third Gr1 winner produced by the Zabeel mare Monroe Magic.
Monroe Magic’s two previously Gr1 winners, Headturner and Anacheeva (both by Anabaa), won the G1 AJC Derby and G1 Caulfield Guineas respectively, and earned a combined total of over AUS $2 000 000 in prize money.
Headturner and Anacheeva are full-brothers to Making Whoopee.
Monroe Magic is also the dam of the stakes winning Kroner, as well as the Cheveley based mare Making Whoopee.
The latter was unraced, but has proved successful at stud. To date, Making Whoopee has produced three winners, including the smart filly Jean’s Pride, and five time winner Wild Count.
Understandably, Making Whoopee’s yearlings have proved popular in the sales ring. Her Montjeu daughter, Larking Around, fetched R1.5 million at the 2007 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
She is currently in foal to champion Captain Al, and has a Trippi filly at foot.
Making Whoopee’s sire, former champion sprinter Anabaa, is one of the world’s great broodmare sires, with his daughters having produced the likes of Arc winner Treve, as well as the G1 winners Dissident, Buffering, Lush Lashes and French 2000 Guineas hero Silver Frost.
