Grade One Double for Maine Chance Farms sires

Greyville’s Super Sunday meeting, held on the last day of the 2015-2016 SA racing season, proved a memorable one for Robertson’s Maine Chance Farms.
Maine Chance’s resident sires Querari and Silvano were both represented by G1 winners on the day, with Querari Falcon (Querari) becoming her young sire’s very first top level winner.

In contrast, Marinaresco (Silvano) became his sire’s 17th individual G1 winner when he saluted in Sunday’s G1 Mike And Carol Bass Champions Cup.

Querari Falcon, who was bred by the Botha family, became the first stakes winner produced in Querari’s second crop when she ran out an eye catching winner of Sunday’s G1 Thekwini Stakes.

(In the process, she went one better than fellow Querari filly Melliflora, who was second in the 2015 Thekwini).
Like Melliflora, Querari Falcon is trained by Mike Azzie. A facile winner first time out (when accounting for subsequent feature winner Lunar Rush), Querari Falcon made it two wins from just three outings when she landed Sunday’s G1 feature by a length from favourite Dawn Calling, with promising fillies Sail and Safe Harbour finishing third and fourth respectively.

Out of the Crimson Waves mare Pretty Waves, Querari Falcon was a R90 000 buy from last year’s CTS August Two-Year-Old Sale.

She wasone of eight juvenile winners for her former champion sire Querari last season, whose other juveniles included the stakes placed pair of Fresh and Touching respectively.

Querari’s stable mate Silvano enjoyed a superb season in 2015-2016 and ended the season as South Africa’s second leading sire by stakes. Marinaresco was one of three stakes performers for Silvano on Sunday –with his daughter Arissa finishing a close second in the G2 The Debutante and another daughter, Nightingale, finishing runner up in the G2 Gold Bracelet.

G1 Mike And Carol Bass Champions Cup winner Marinaresco was one of 12 stakes winners (who won 18 black type races) for former champion sire Silvano last season.

The son of Lomitas’ other black type winners last season included G1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas winner Silver Mountain, G3 Protea Stakes hero Janoobi, G3 Winter Derby winner Elusive Silva and brilliant G2 Canon Guineas hero Black Arthur.

Silvano, whose champion son Vercingetorix was recently represented by his first foal, is also the sire of former July winner and champion Bold Silvano, who ranked among South Africa’s leading first crop sires in 2015-2016.
