Wilgerbosdrift’s exciting new stallion Flower Alley was back in the news on Monday when his durable and talented son Neck ‘N Neck landed the Gr3 Greenwood Cup at Parx racecourse.
The Ian Wilkes trained six-year-old dug down deep to get the best of former G1 Hollywood Gold Cup winner Majestic Harbor and prevail by a half length.
The winner, who was partnered to victory by Paco Lopez, set a time of 2.33.64 for the 2400m race. It was another two and a half lengths back to the third placed finisher, For Greater Glory.
Owned by Ted Mitzlaff, Neck ‘Neck was picking his sixth career win and pushed his earnings to just under $1 million.
The entire had previously won all of the G2 Indiana Derby, G3 Matt Winn Stakes and G3 Ack Ack Stakes. Neck ‘N Neck, who is out of the Storm Boot mare Bootery, has also been placed in another seven stakes races, with his best previous efforts including a second to G1 winner Alpha in the G2 Jim Dandy Stakes, while Neck ‘N Neck accounted for the outstanding Honor Code when third in the G3 Alysheba Stakes earlier this year.
Neck ‘N Neck could make his next start in what was formerly the Breeders Cup Marathon.
Flower Alley, also the sire of champions I’ll Have Another and Lukes Alley, has been exceptionally well received in South Africa. His first book of local mares include the likes of high class race mares Athina (G1 SA Fillies Classic), Berry Blaze (2nd G2 KRA Fillies Guineas, 3rd G1 SA Fillies Classic), Express Queen (G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes), Gorongosa (G2 Gold Bowl), Ilha Bela (G2 SA Oaks), Loupe (Swallow Stakes), Milk And Honey (G3 Acacia Handicap), Red Dor (G2 Tibouchina Stakes) and Velvet Green (G1 Garden Province Stakes).
Other exciting mares set to visit Flower Alley in 2015 include Seeking The Wind and Serra Negra, dams of G1 J&B Met winner Martial Eagle and G1 Cape Guineas hero Noordhoek Flyer respectively, while G1 Summer Cup hero Wagner’s dam Cosima Liszt and G2 UAE Derby winner Mubtaahij’s half sister Saint Mary are other interesting names set to visit Flower Alley this season.
