Greys Inn relative lands Triscay Stakes

Rosedene Stud’s Greys Inn undoubtedly hails from one of the best families in the Australian stud book. Not only does the son of Zabeel number the likes of champion Smart Call and top class sire Zeditave as relatives, but he is also related to current very smart Australian gallopers Pariah and Zestful.

While the former is one of the early fancies for the 2017 G1 Blue Diamond Stakes, relative Zestful added further gloss to this remarkable family’s success rate when she won the G3 Triscay Stakes at Randwick on Monday.

Sparingly raced, the daughter of Redoute’s Choice ran on powerfully to gain an unlikely last stride win in Monday’s G3 feature. Zestful ran on powerfully to gain a head win in the 1200m sprint –somewhat against the odds!

Jockey Jason Collet was doubtful of the win, saying, “I thought a cracking second or third was as good as it was going to get,” he said. “We were behind a wall of them. I dragged her back to the inside, I wasn’t balanced so she couldn’t have been balanced but as soon as she saw clear running she really dug in. As I said I didn’t think I’d get them but then the last 50 metres I thought we’re a chance. That was impressive.”

Zestful has now won five of 11 outings and banked over $275 000 in stakes.

Former July winning champion Greys Inn has been in the news of late thanks to his Horse Of The Year son Legal Eagle, winner of the 2017 G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and runner up in the G1 Sun Met. (It was the second year in a row that the Avontuur bred champion had accomplished this feat and Legal Eagle has now banked more than R8 000 000 in stakes).
