Guineas winner for Trippi

Leading sire Trippi is seldom out of the news for long, and has been enjoying another purple patch of success with his runners excelling around the country.
Remarkably, of Trippi’s first 17 runners in April no fewer than 16 have finished in the money, and his winners include a number of really promising looking sorts.

Among the End Sweep son’s early April winners is talented 3yo Brilliant Crimson, who became his sire’s 62nd individual stakes winner when he won Friday’s Listed East Cape Guineas.
The blue blooded gelding, bred by Highlands Farm, kicked on powerfully in the 1600m contest to defeat the promising Star Chestnut by 1.75 lengths with Welsh Emperor back in third place.

Owned by Ingrid and Markus Jooste, Brilliant Crimson was a R1.3 million buy from the 2014 Cape Premier Yearling Sale. He was one of no fewer than six winners for Trippi this past weekend, whose impressive tally also included the very promising and G3 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery hope Live Life, as well as the facile 4.75 length winner Nala and the talented Tripandie.

Brilliant Crimson is one of a number of talented sophomores representing Trippi this season, however. Currently South Africa’s third leading sire of 3yos (by stakes) , Trippi’s eight stakes 3yos this season include R8 000 000 earner Illuminator, G1 filly Taffety Tart, G3 winner Speedy Suzy, and Saturday’s G3 Man O’War Sprint runner up African Ruler.



Trippi is also strongly represented in Friday night’s G3 Umzimkhulu Stakes for 3yo fillies (won last year by Trippi filly One Fine Day), with no fewer than three runners –Taffety Tart, Fromafar and Trip To India. His son, Baritone, will represent Trippi in the night’s other G3 feature, the G3 Byerley Turk.

The handsome bay has also made his customary good start with his 2yos this season. Of Trippi’s first 12 2yo runners, 10 have either won or finished in the money, and they include Listed Storm Bird Stakes winner Flying Myth and the above mentioned Live Life.

He has five lots on offer at April’s Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale, with Trippi’s draft including a filly out of G2 Tibouchina Stakes winner Fragrant Al (Lot 55), a colt out of Street Cry’s G3 winning daughter Hollywoodboulevard (Lot 70), and a full sister to G2 Premier Trophy hero Paterfamilias (Lot 91).

Trippi also has a tremendous draft on offer at the National Yearling Sale, which takes place in Germiston from April 27th to April 29th. His nine strong National draft includes a colt out of G2 winner Hawker Hunter (Lot 129), a full brother to triple G1 winner Inara (Lot 224), a colt out of Fillies Guineas winner Rememberance (Lot 286) and a colt out of a daughter of Sadler’s Wells and Irish G1 winner Necklace (Lot 301).
