Hernando’s dam to visit King George hero
The Alchemy’s well performed young stallion Gitano Hernando is one of the best performed young horses ever to begin their stud careers in South Africa.
The handsome chestnut won seven times and earned over $2 million during a racing career which saw Gitano Hernando campaign in five different countries.
His victories included a pair of Grade 1 triumphs – the Goodwood Stakes of 2009 and the Singapore Airlines International Cup run two years later.
Gitano Hernando, who won from 1700 to 2100m, was also an extremely versatile horse winning major races on all weather and turf surfaces alike. From the same male line as the outstanding South African stallions Dancing Champ and Silvano, Gitano Hernando is from a superb female line.
His dam Gino’s Spirits was a top class racemare, who won or placed in 20 of her 33 outings. Gino’s Spirits scored the biggest victory of her career when successful in the Gr3 Noble Damsel Handicap of 2000, when she accounted for La Ville Rouge (subsequently the dam of ill-fated Kentucky Derby hero Barbaro) as well as South African champion Spook Express.
In 2015, the daughter of Perugino will visit Galileo’s King George/Eclipse winning son Nathaniel, who defeated the winners of 27 Group 1 races during his three seasons of racing. He also ran the mighty Frankel to one and a half lengths on debut, before going on to land two of Europe’s premier Weight For Age races and earn over $2.3 million in stakes.
One of the best sons of his great sire, Nathaniel has proven hugely popular since he retired to Newsells Park Stud in 2013, covering a high class book of148 mares in his first season at stud.
