The Highlands Farm bred Sweet Sanette proved a huge attraction at the recent Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale in Australia.
The daughter of Jallad, who was catalogued as lot 1385, was knocked down to Belmont Bloodstock Agency for all of AUS $875 000, or over R8.2 million.
Consigned in foal to champion sire and sprinter Fastnet Rock, Sweet Sanette was an outstanding racemare who raced successfully in three different countries –Britain, Hong Kong and South Africa.
A full sister to G3 Protea Stakes winner Dark Justice and a half sister to the top class filly Franny, Sweet Sanette won 8 times up to 1160m, with her wins include G3 scores in both Hong Kong (Bauhinia Trophy) and South Africa (Sycamore Sprint).
She went on to run third in the 2011 G1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, where Sweet Sanette’s beaten rivals included such outstanding sprinters as Overdose (4th), War Artist (5th), Kingsgate Native (6th), and Sole Power (eighth).
She retired to stud, having won eight times and earned more than £500 000 in stakes, with her placings also including a third in the G1 HKJC Kent & Curwen Centenary Sprint Cup in Hong Kong.
Sweet Sanette’s first foals are both colts by Fastnet Rock – Champion Sire in Australia in 2014-2015.
Out of the outstanding National Assembly mare Scented Samantha, Sweet Sanette’s numerous high class relatives include the tragically ill-fated G2 Hawaii Stakes winner Chekilli.
One of the very best sire sons of Danehill, Fastnet Rock has currently 77 stakes winners to his credit, a tally which includes no fewer than 18 Group One winners.
