Varsfontein Stud’s exciting young stallion Gimmethegreenlight had an eye catching juvenile winner at Turffontein on Thursday.
Green Top, a Varsfontein bred daughter of the sire, produced a devastating finish to win going away by 2.4 lengths over 1200m for trainer Alec Laird in the style of a filly with a bright future ahead of her.
A half-sister to G2 Gauteng Guineas entrant Doosra, Green Top, a R225 000 buy from last year’s National Yearling Sale, provided jockey Muzi Yeni with his 1200th winner, and she looks destined for bigger and better things.
Her sire Gimmethegreenlight, last season’s Leading First Crop Sire, has made a fantastic start to his stud career, with his first crop having produced the graded winners Green Pepper, Gunner, and Hack Green, as well as Bloodstock SA Million Mile hero Legend.
The former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate has also made a smart start with his 2yos this season –Gimmethegreenlight having been represented by nine juvenile runners thus far, with no fewer than seven having either won or finished in the money.
The son of More Than Ready has 7 lots on the March Yearling Sale including a filly from the family of champions Intikhab, Polish Precedent and Zilzal (Lot 43), a colt out of a winning ½ sister to G3 winner A Boy Named Sue (Lot 85), a colt out of a winning Exceed And Excel ½ sister to a Germany G3 winning 2yo (Lot 109) and a colt from the same family as Epsom Derby runner up Connaught (Lot 130).
Gimmethegreenlight also has a strong draft on offer at the Cape Yearling Sale, including a filly out of a half-sister to champion 2yo Laverna (Lot 33), a filly (from the famed Queen Of Light family) related to G1 winner Captain America (Lot 50), a colt from the family of recent G1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship winner Carry On Alice (Lot 107) and a colt out of G2 Gold Bracelet winner Cruise Collection (Lot 113).
