Impressive debut win for Jay Peg filly

Hemel ‘N Aarde’s successful resident sire Jay Peg was responsible for an eye catching juvenile winner on Saturday when his daughter Midnight Moonlight made a winning debut over 1400m at Kenilworth.

One of three winners on the day for the training partnership of Carl Burger and Riaan Van Reenen, the James Armitage bred Midnight Moonlight romped to a facile one and a half length win first time out.

A R60 000 buy from last year’s March Yearling Sale, Midnight Moonlight is the fifth 2yo winner this season for former Equus Champion and dual international G1 winner Jay Peg.

The latter has enjoyed another good season in 2016-2017, with his top runners including the talented 2yo and G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes winner Woljayrine as well as R2.9 million plus earner, and Cape Mile winner, Victorious Jay, who ran subsequent G1 Vodacom Durban July winner Marinaresco to a short- head when second in the G2 Independent on Saturday Drill Hall Stakes earlier this season. Victorious Jay is a runner in Saturday’s G1 Mercury Sprint at Greyville.

Jay Peg, whose other graded winners include Exit Here, Hot Affair and Peggy Jay, will be represented by three two-year-olds at August’s National 2YO Sale.
