Impressive debut winner for Ashaawes

Sandown Stud’s resident sire Ashaawes had a really good looking juvenile win on Guineas night last Friday.
His daughter, Poster Girl, made all to win, first time out, a maiden juvenile plate over 1200m for trainer Gavin Van Zyl and owner Brian Burnard.

Bred by the Boland Stud, Poster Girl was a R100 000 buy from the 2015 Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale.

Her sire Ashaawes is also the sire of another talented juvenile this year, in the form of G3 Pretty Polly Stakes third place finisher Cyber Magic.

A son of Kingmambo (also sire of leading sires Lemon Drop Kid, King Kamehameha and King’s Best), Ashaawes is a proven sire of high class performers, with his top offspring including the brilliant filly Priceless Jewel, Matchem Stakes hero Reim, the very speedy Asstar (also bred by Boland), international G1 performer Sanshaawes and such high class stakes winners as Scented Ash and Way Clear.

From a top class female line, Ashaawes is bred on the same Kingmambo/Seattle Slew cross as five time G1 winner and US champion Lemon Drop Kid. Now an outstanding sire himself, Lemon Drop Kid is the sire of 90 odd stakes winners, and eight individual G1 winners.

Ashaawes also shares his broodmare sire Seattle Slew with the much missed Sail From Seattle, sire of such G1 winners as Elusive Gold and Gulf Storm.
