Impressive debut winner for Gimmethegreenlight

Varsfontein’s exciting young sire Gimmethegreenlight, currently South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire by stakes, was represented by his eighth first crop winner on Friday.
His two-year-old son Green Lantern made a smart winning debut when landing a juvenile plate over 1200m, leaving previous winners Zevenastic and Rock Deejay in his wake.

Green Lantern, who was bred by Varsfontein, is out of the Fort Wood mare Over The Anvil, and was a R160 000 buy from last year’s National Yearling Sale.

He continued Gimmethegreenlight’s great start to his stud career –the son of More Than Ready’s seven previous winners including the stakes performer Skip The Red, and eye catching debut winners Hack Green, Beataboutthebush and Gunner.

The latter is set to take his place in the G2 Durban Golden Horseshoe on Vodacom Durban July on Saturday week.
Gimmethegreenlight, who is currently above such top class sires as Querari, Kahal, Hard Spun and Tiger Ridge on the Leading Sires of 2YOs list, has seven lots at next week’s Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale –including a half sister to G3 2yo Qui Success (Lot77), a colt from the family of champion Arabian Lass and 2016 G1 Investec Oaks winner Minding (Lot 123) and a colt out of nine time stakes winner Reconcile (Lot 190).
