Impressive debut winner for Gimmethegreenlight

Varsfontein Stud’s resident sire Gimmethegreenlight had an eye catching debut winner at Scottsville on Wednesday when 2yo Hack Green, a member of his sire’s first crop, won first time out, in open company, over 1200m.

The colt, who is trained by Dennis Drier, was bred by Varsfontein.  Hack Green, who is out of the blue blooded Fort Wood mare Secret Mission, was a R950 000 purchase from last year’s Val De Vie Yearling Sale (he was the second top lot sold at that sale).

Hack Green is from the same family as G2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf hero Pluck, who, like Gimmethegreenlight, is a son of world leading sire More Than Ready.

His victory propelled Gimmethegreenlight into top slot as South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire (by number of winners).
The son of More Than Ready has now had six individual juvenile winners this season thus far, with his recent scorers including Sunday’s winner Old Oak Tree.

An outstanding racehorse, Gimmethegreenlight himself won 6 times, with his wins including the G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, where his beaten rivals included dual Horse Of The Year Variety Club.
Also a high class stakes winner at two, Gimmethegreenlight is a half brother to G1 Coolmore Classic winner Ofcourseican.

He has seven yearlings on sale at the 2016 Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale:

Lot 77 –this well bred filly, whose six winning siblings include a G2 juvenile, is out of a mare who won three and hails from the immediate family of this season’s top class filly Madame Dubois. Also from the family of champion South Vagabunda, who, like Gimmethegreenlight’s sire, is by champion sire Southern Halo
