Highlands Farm’s resident sire Antonius Pius had an eye catching debut winner at the Vaal on Tuesday.
The stallion’s daughter Firstimesacharm pulled off something of a coup when backed from 12-1 into 3-1 for a maiden plate over 1200m. The Lucky Houdalakis trained sophomore made no mistakes and cruised home to score by over two lengths, under former champion jockey S’Manga Khumalo.
Owned by Warren Laird and Braam Van Huyssteen, the Gainesway Thoroughbred Ltd bred filly is out of the Orientate mare Charmz.
Her sire, Antonius Pius, was South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire in 2012-2013, and is the sire of high class local stakes winners Antonius Du Bois, Arria, Belong To Me, Cool Chardonnay, My Sanctuary and R800 000 plus earner Yoshie.
Winner of the G2 Railway Stakes at two and runner up in the G1 Breeders Cup Mile, Antonius Pius is a son of legendary stallion Danzig, sire of outstanding sires Danehill, Green Desert, War Front, Hard Spun and former Highlands’ resident, National Assembly.
