Impressive debut winner for Trippi

Drakenstein’s resident sire Trippi had an eye catching debut winner salute at Greyville last Friday evening.
Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, three-year-old filly African Sunbird proved too strong for her field when running out a convincing 1.25 length winner of Friday’s first race.

Trained by Charles Laird, and ridden by Anton Marcus, African Sunbird won nicely –despite being slow into stride –and she could well build on this smart first effort.

Her sire Trippi, South Africa’s reigning champion sire, has some top class three-year-olds to his credit this season, including Listed Storm Bird Stakes hero Flying Myth, G1 filly Dawn Calling, and undefeated G2 Choice Carriers Fillies Championship entrant California Girl, among others.

Sire of  64 stakes winners (and counting), Trippi’s best offspring include five time G1 winner Inara, Equus Champion Hammie’s Hooker, star fillies Lanner Falcon and Real Princess, and the G1 winning juveniles Afrikaburn, For The Lads and R Heat Lightning.
