Leading sire Var is seldom short of talented runners and the brilliant son of Forest Wildcat had another first timer make a pleasing impression at Turffontein on Tuesday afternoon.
The blue blooded Qarman won first time out for trainer Alec Laird and jockey Andrew Fortune over 1000m, scoring a cosy half length success over some more experienced rivals.
Qarman, a three parts sister to Var’s Gr1 Mercury Sprint winning son August Rush, is out of the winning Silvano mare September Morn.
Her sire, who is currently sixth on South Africa’s Leading Sire of 3YOS list, is no stranger to siring high class fillies and Qarman looks to have a bright future ahead of her.
Var, whose current three-year-olds include no fewer than six stakes horses including feature race winners Isca, Juan Two Three and Tar Heel, will be represented in Saturday’s Gr2 Amtote Merchants by his Gr2 Senor Santa Handicap winning son Dollar Dazzler.
The sire of no fewer than 16 Grade One horses (and counting), Var’s top runners include the champions Variety Club, Val De Ra and Via Africa. He stood for a fee of R150 000 in 2015.
