Hence, a close relative of Moutonshoek’s well performed young sire Marchfield, romped to an effortless three and a three quarter length victory in Sunday’s G3 Sunland Derby at Sunland Park.
The 3yo son of Street Boss collected 50 points as he strolled home to collect the first graded win of his career.
Trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen, Hence was partnered to victory by Alfredo Juarez JR.
The colt accounted for the previously undefeated Conquest Mo Money, with front runner Hedge Fund back in third.
Hence has now won two of six outings and banked over $500 000 in prize money.
He is out of the A P Indy mare Floating Island, a half-sister to Broodmare Of The Year Pico Teneriffe, the dam of Marchfield (by A P Indy).
This is also the family of multiple G1 winners and successful sires Crytoclearance and Harlan’s Holiday, as well as former top class SA sires Home Guard and Peaceable Kingdom.
Marchfield, whose first SA crop is now two, won seven times and banked more than $1 million in prize money, in a career which saw him win three graded races as well as the classic Breeders’ Stakes.
The champion son of A P Indy has nine lots on offer at the 2017 National Yearling Sale, including a half-sister to G2 Merchants winner Triptique (Lot 93), a filly out of feature race winner Atlantic Storm (Lot 294), and a filly, out of a 2yo stakes winner, from the family of US champion sire Giant’s Causeway, great broodmare Hasili, and recent G1 winner Decorated Knight (Lot 491).
