Duke Of Marmalade has enjoyed a truly remarkable season in 2015. Not a month has gone by without the champion son of Danehill featuring among the sires of stakes winners, and he also has a number of exciting two-year-old prospects this season.
This surely bodes well for the five time Group 1 winner’s ongoing success in 2016!
Latest of the Duke Of Marmalade juveniles to catch the eye was Zest, who races for breeder the Elite Racing Club. Making just her second lifetime outing after being beaten a short head on debut, the 2yo filly landed the spoils in an EBF Maiden Stakes over 1600m at Doncaster on Friday. Out of a Sadler’s Wells mare, the lightly raced Zest looks to have the scope to improve with time and she looks a nice sort for next year.
Other promising juveniles to represent Duke Of Marmalade is Royal Reserve –who is one of four Duke Of Marmalade sired 2yos entered for the 2016 Investec Derby.
Duke Of Marmalade, whose G1 Deutsches Derby winning son Nutan is set to begin his stud career at Gestut Lindenhof in 2016, has four individual classic winners to his credit this season. Among them is G3 Premio Regina Elena (Italian 1000 Guineas) winner Sound Of Freedom, who ran a smashing second (beaten a neck by French G1 winner Odeliz), in Sunday’s G1 Premio Longines Lydia Tesio. Sound Of Freedom, who was also second in the G2 Derby Italiano earlier this year, has now won or placed in five pattern races and has earned more than $250 000 in prize money.
One of more than 80 G1 winners sired by legendary stallion Danehill, Duke Of Marmalade is a half brother to former Investec Derby winner Ruler Of The World and is from the family of highly successful South African sires Al Mufti (sire of last season’s Champion Sire Captain Al), Sportsworld and Tiger Ridge.
