In form Ashaawes enjoys good run of success

Sandown Stud’s blue blooded Kingmambo son Ashaawes has been enjoying a good run of success with his runners of late.
Ashaawes’ last handful of local runners include no fewer than seven winners, headed by the top-class sprinter Asstar.

Bred by the Boland Stud, Asstar recently made waves when he landed the Listed Umngeni Handicap, where the gelding defeated such high class stakes winners as Isca, Ernie, Barbosa, Tar Heel, and former G2 Umkhomazi Stakes hero Harry Lime.

Now a time winner, Asstar (who has won two of his last three outings) had previously finished a close up third in the G2 Durban Merchants, where he was beaten less than four lengths by the top class Kangaroo Jack. To date, the five-year-old has won six times and earned more than R500 000 in stakes –a fine return on the R80 000 it took to acquire him from the 2013 Suncoast Casino KZN Yearling Sale!

Another son of Ashaawes to pick up a feature race recently was former G3 Matchem Stakes hero Reim, who collected his eighth career victory when landing the Lightning Cup in Mauritius.

From his first small foal crops, Ashaawes (who has a great winner to runner strike rate) has come up with a number of top class runners including the brilliant and versatile filly Priceless Jewel, world class G1 performer Sanshaawes, the above mentioned Reim, and multiple stakes winners Scented Ash and Way Clear.

Ashaawes (who shares his sire Kingmambo with popular local sire Ideal World (sire of recent Equus Champion Smart Call) and red hot US stallion Lemon Drop Kid) has two well related two-year-olds on this week’s National Two Year Old Sale:

Lot 147- a half-sister to a winner, this filly is out of a half sister to G2 winning 2yo La Deportista (herself dam of East Cape champion Juan Pablo). The filly on offer is also very closely related to current top class performer Saratoga Dancer –who, like the filly on sale, is by a son of Kingmambo

Lot 264 – a half brother to 2 winners, one of whom won seven, this colt is out of a three parts sister to Bloodline Million hero and sire Leopard Strike, and to the dam of former Equus Champion Kochka
