Incredible hatrick for Sail From Seattle
Ascot Stud’s exciting young sire Sail From Seattle scored a remarkable hatrick at Durbanville racecourse on Wednesday.
His offspring won the first three races on the card in an almost unheard of clean sweep for a second season sire!
Sail South, bred by Mr and Mrs Pott, got the ball rolling for his sire, when running out a brave, half-length winner of the first race on the card. Paternal half-brother Gulf Storm, bred by Ascot Stud, won a good race for the Brett Crawford yard when breaking his maiden in facile fashion, while Sail From Seattle’s beautifully bred daughter, Seattle Moon (who is out of that wonderful racemare Shepherd’s Moon), gave her sire the treble when she won the afternoon’s third race.
Sail From Seattle has made a flying start to his stud career. His nine winners already include the East Cape Champion Seattle Storm, stakes winner Navistar, as well as the Gr1 placed Tommy Gun and the unbeaten (and exported) My Nephew Eric.
A true blue blood, Sail From Seattle is one of over 100 stakes winners sired by the great sire Gone West (also responsible for leading sires Speightstown, Grand Slam, Elusive Quality and the late, great Western Winter). He is from a tremendous family, whose members include leading sires Smart Strike, Sky Classic and Strike Smartly, as well as Moreno – one of North America’s top 3yos in 2013.
Understandably, Sail From Seattle has proven very popular in the sales ring. His first yearlings sold up to R1 000 000, and he was the fifth leading sire, by aggregate, at the 2013 Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale.
Sail From Seattle (Gone West – Seattle Classic) stands for a 2013 fee of R20 000.
