Inform stud well represented on National Sale
Lammerskraal Stud, who have been represented by four winners over the past two days, are strongly represented on the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
The farm, who have bred such champions as Yard-Arm, Ice Cube and Capetown Noir – to name a few, have a string of 11 well bred lots on offer at the National Sale this year. Lammerskraal also offer a yearling as agent – lot 215.
The first of the Lammerskraal draft to go under the hammer is lot 84. A beautifully bred daughter of the farm’s promising resident sire Go Deputy, this filly has been named Flying Ice. She is out of former Gr2 KRA Fillies Guineas runner up Strawberry Ice – an own sister to former Gr1 Cape Guineas winner Solo Traveller. Lammerskraal’s Sally Jourdan says the filly is a tall, strong deep bodied first foal, whom she likes.
Go Deputy is also the sire of the next Lammerskraal lot on sale – a colt by the name of Penteliko (lot 163). This is the full-brother to the talented stakes performer Alula Borealis, and his dam is a full-sister to champion Ice Cube and high-class Gr1 performer Jagged Ice. His second dam is the top-class racemare Annie, a multiple Graded stakes winner. Sally describes the colt as “rangy and athletic.”
Lot 171 is a colt by millionaire and promising young sire Go Deputy, sire of the high-class stakes winners Changingoftheguard and Adobe Pink. Named Rap Attack, this is a half-brother to a stakes horse, and a full-brother to a winner. His dam is a multiple stakes winning full-sister to G1 winner Set Afire, and is also closely to 3yo sensation Red Ray. Sally says of Rap Attack that he is “a good size, but close coupled, strong and deep bodied.”
The ill-fated Western Winter was one of the best sires to stand in South Africa over the past few decades. The sire of champions Argonaut, Ice Cube, Winter Solstice and Yard-Arm (to name but a few) is the sire of lot 177, a chestnut colt named Canigao. The colt is out of a stakes placed daughter of Parade Leader, and hails from the family of champion sprinter, National Bay. The farm’s Sally Jourdan describes Canigao as “an athletic and quality colt of good size.”
Lot 183 is another colt by the great Western Winter. A full brother to recent winner Blizzard Belle, this colt has been named Soldier’s Code. A half-brother to Gr1 Woolavington Stakes winner Viva Maria, this colt is out of the high-class stakes winner Bardot. Rated “very smart” by Sally, who says of Soldier’s Code that he is a quality, well balanced and athletic colt.
The next of the Lammerskraal draft to go under the hammer is lot 270. A son of millionaire and Gr1 winner Go Deputy, this bay is called Abashiri. He is out of the top-class mare Donya – a half-sister to Horse of The Year Yard-Arm. His second dam is Broodmare Of The Year Fashing. Abashiri is a half-brother to 4 winners, including Dubai stakes winner Drift Ice. Another very nice type, this is a muscular, deep bodied and well balanced sort.
The mighty Western Winter is the sire of the colt named Stebbins (lot 281). This well bred colt is a brother to 2 winners, and is a brother in blood to Horse of the Year Yard-Arm and stakes winner Drift Ice. Interestingly, both Yard-Arm and Drift Ice were successful in Dubai – and this colt definitely has an international pedigree! Sally describes Stebbins as a smallish, but well made and neat colt.
Aspen Fire, by uber promising sire Go Deputy, is a filly with a superb pedigree. Catalogued as lot 311, this chestnut is a full-sister to 2 multiple winners. Her four time winning dam is a full-sister to multiple Gr1 winner Set Afire, and a half-sister to Gr1 Summer Cup hero Rudra. Aspen Fire’s dam is also closely related to the top-class siblings Nania and Red Ray. Aspen Fire is a half-sister to very promising filly Red Flame, who has won and been placed on her only two outings to date. This well bred filly is another rangy and athletic type who should do well.
Lot 313 is another beautifully bred daughter of Deputy Minister’s Gr1 winning son Go Deputy. Named Esperanza Fire, this filly is a half-sister to no fewer than 9 winners including top class sprinter Chant de Nuit, Hong Kong hero Hitman, and G3 filly Clarion Call. A filly with great potential! While on the small side, Esperanza Fire remains a quality filly, who is muscular and deep bodied.
A colt with classic potential all over him is Icy Trail (lot 352). This colt is by the Gr1 Sword Dancer Invitational winner Go Deputy out of Equus Champion Icy Air. Icy Trail is a half-brother to 3 black type horses, and he could be another smart sort for his prolific and hugely successful dam. He more than lives up to his classic pedigree as an individual, with Sally saying of Icy Trail that he is a very nice colt, who is muscular and well bodied.
Kellie Firth (lot 377) is the next of the string to come up for sale. A daughter of Go Deputy (like outstanding filly Adobe Pink), this filly is out of a full-sister to Drift Ice. The filly’s dam is also a sister in blood to Horse of the Year Yard-Arm, who earned over R3.7 million. Kellie Firth has an exciting update – her sister (and her dam’s first foal) Kileigh ran third on debut to subsequent feature race winner Pine Princess, and looks a nice sort in the making. She is a tall and attractive filly.
Lammerskraal are also proud to offer lot 215 on behalf of Target Acquired CC. He is a son of champion sire Western Winter, sire of such great champions as Argonaut, Ice Cube, Winter Solstice, What A Winter, Yard-Arm and Capetown Noir. This colt is a full-brother to 2 winners, and a half-brother to recent impressive winner Red Mariner. His dam is a half-sister to four stakes winners, including G1 winner Nania and star 3yo Red Ray. He has been widely praised, and Sally says of Black Mariner that he is a very impressive individual, who is a big, well grown and strong colt.
