Highlands’ two young Sadler’s Wells line stallions Jackson and Potala Palace have both made promising starts to their respective stud careers –if these smashing first crop foals are anything to go by.
Triple G1 winner Jackson was hugely popular in his first season at stud last year, when he covered a top class book of mares, which included former G1 Allan Robertson Fillies Championship winner Geepee S.
Among the Dynasty son’s first crop of foals now on the ground is this lovely filly out of the well bred mare Undine.
The latter is a winning Western Winter half sister to ill-fated G1 SA Classic winner Divine Jury as well as the well performed new Cape sire Divine Jet.
Conqueror of the mighty Variety Club in the 2012 G1 Investec Cape Derby, Jackson is one of the best sons of Highlands’ outstanding sire Dynasty currently at stud. The handsome young sire also hails from an outstanding female line, with his relatives including the dual US Champion Sire Smart Strike, whose sire sons Curlin, English Channel, Lookin At Lucky and Square Eddie have all been represented by either G1 or classic winners in 2015.
Another scion of the mighty Sadler’s Wells male line is former G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes winner Potala Palace.
Like the outstanding racehorse Solow (a winner of four G1 races in a row this year) and promising local sire Lateral, Potala Palace is a son of Singspiel, a champion half brother to leading sires Rahy and Rakeen.
From the immediate family of English classic winners Golan (2000 Guineas) and North Light (Epsom Derby), as well as G1 Champion Stakes winner and outstanding sire Reform, Potala Palace traces back directly in female line to Simon’s Shoes –also the ancestress of the great sires Fairy King, Nureyev and Sadler’s Wells himself.
The Sadler’s Wells male line dynasty of great sires includes the likes of Galileo, Montjeu, High Chaparral, Kitten’s Joy, El Prado, Medaglia D’Oro as well as the late, great South African based stallion Fort Wood.
A magnificent specimen himself, Potala Palace is really siring some eye catching foals.
Among them is this lovely filly out of former Listed Sun Classique Handicap heroine Competitor (whose sire Tara’s Halls is by Sadler’s Wells full brother Fairy King), a four time winner from the family of champions Ribofilio and Up The Creek.
Another attractive Potala Palace foal is this colt out of the well bred Rich Man’s Gold Water Is Gold. A three time winner herself, Water Is Gold is out of former G3 Champagne Stakes vixen Waterwise.
These two well performed young stallions who hail from two of the finest families in the stud book can hardly have made better starts and hopefully both Jackson and Potala Palace can go on from here.
