Varsfontein Stud’s blue blooded sire Judpot is from a sizzling hot family. Not only is Judpot’s close relative, and recent G2 Betfred Dante Stakes winner, Permian, likely to contest next month’s G1 Investec Derby, but he is also closely related to one of Ireland’s most promising two-year-old fillies.
Alpha Centauri, a daughter of Mastercraftsman, made it two wins from as many outings for owner-breeders the Niarchos family when romping home to a five length win in Sunday’s Listed Coolmore Stud EBF Fillies’ Sprint Stakes, over 1200m at Naas.
Her trainer Jessica Harrington, said after the win, “Alpha Centauri is so easy going and takes everything in her stride. The further she went the better she got. She will go to Ascot next and the Albany would be her most likely target.”
Alpha Centauri is out of the Rahy mare Alpha Lupi, whose dam is Judpot’s G1 French 1000/French Oaks winning ½ sister East Of The Moon.
Her third dam is legendary racemare and producer Miesque, a dual winner of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Mile.
Another from this family is potential 2017 G1 Investec Derby contender Yucatan (Galileo), who was a close up second in the recent G3 Derrinstown Derby Trial.
Judpot, whose yearlings have made up to R1.2 million this year, is a proven sire whose best offspring includes champion Along Came Polly, G1 winners Forest Indigo and Juxtapose, recent G2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes winner Polyphonic and G2 Daisy Fillies Guineas runner up Final Judgement.
