Judpot fillies shine once again on Classic Day

Varsfontein Stud’s resident sire Judpot is no stranger to Classic Day. Just 12 months ago, the son of A P Indy’s daughter Juxtapose won the G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic, before going on to triumph in the G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks, and Judpot was again to the fore of proceedings on Classic day this past weekend, with his daughter Bi Pot putting up a bold effort to finish third in the G1 G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic, with another Judpot filly, Polyphonic, taking out the Listed Jacaranda Handicap on the same card.

Bred and owned by Varsfontein Stud, the blue blooded Bi Pot (one of two Judpot fillies in the SA Fillies Classic) was making her first outing in feature race company, and judging by this close up third, to proven stakes horses Orchid Island and Safe Harbour, she looks to have a very bright future ahead of her.

Bi Pot is the latest high class performer to have emerged from Judpot’s current crop of 3yos, with this crop also including Golden Slipper winner Final Judgement and stakes winning 2yo Maleficent.

Just a few races later, Judpot’s daughter Polyphonic captured the first stakes race of her career when landing the Jacaranda Handicap. Well ridden by Piere Strydom, the Varsfontein Stud bred and owned four-year-old came from last to first to land the 1800m contest by 1.4 lengths going away.
Trained by Alec Laird, Polyphonic (who had previously finished runner up in the G2 Ipi Tombe Challenge last year) was impressive in conceding up  to 8kgs to her rivals.

She is a three parts sister to Judpot sired champion and dual G1 winner Along Came Polly.

A half-brother to French classic winners East Of The Moon and Kingmambo (and from the same family as Breeders’ Cup winners Karakontie and Six Perfections), Judpot has three lots on offer at this month’s Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale, including a filly out of Oaks runner up Star Safari (Lot 44) and a colt from the same family as graded winners Ghostly Galleon and Jet Aglow (Lot 79).

The son of dual US champion sire  A P Indy has a superb draft of 29 on the 2017 National Yearling Sale next month, including a half-brother to champion Lizarre (Lot 13), a half-brother to G3 winner Model Guest from the family of champion Senor Santa (Lot 56), a full brother to champion Along Came Polly (Lot 98), a three parts brother to Polyphonic (Lot 103), and a full brother to G1 winning 2yo Forest Indigo (Lot 275).
