Judpot relative lands European Free Handicap

Varsfontein Stud’s in-form resident sire Judpot is from one of the best families in the stud book.
Judpot, a half brother to 2 French classic winners himself, is from the immediate family of 2016 G1 Dubai Turf hero Real Steel, while another high class runner to have emerged from this wonderful family (responsible for 3 Breeders’ Cup Mile winners) is promising British 3yo Ibn Malik.

The latter made all the running to land Wednesday’s Listed CSP European Free Handicap at Newmarket for trainer Charlie Hills.
Hills was delighted with his gelding’s facile two length win, and said after Wednesday’s win, “
He got a bit tired on that ground, but Paul gave him a lovely ride.
“There were a lot of fast sorts in the race and I didn’t want him to get done for speed early on as we knew he’d get the trip well.
“He had an issue after his last run last year and he went back to Shadwell (Stud). He had couple of little issues. They were sorted and I couldn’t be happier with him.
“It was only January/February time he was gelded and he’s only been back with us five or six weeks. It was a great team effort.
“We’ll have a look a the King Charles II Stakes back here next and then probably go for the Jersey (at Royal Ascot).” Past winners of the European Handicap include champion sires Green Desert and Danehill, as well as the likes of Welsh Pageant, Mrs McArdy, Mystiko and Desert Prince.

Ibn Malik (by Raven’s Pass) has now won or placed in all of his five outings, and was runner up in both the G2 Vintage Stakes and G2 Champagne Stakes last season.
The gelding is out of unraced Storm Cat mare Moon’s Whisper, whose French 1000/Oaks winning dam East Of The Moon is a half sister to Judpot.
