Judpot sophomores impress!
Varsfontein Stud’s promising young sire Judpot has enjoyed a purple patch with his 3yos these past few days.
On Sunday, Judpot’s pricey son Oh Boy made an impressive winning debut at Scottsville for trainer Dennis Drier, when getting up to win first time out over 1200m. Bred to appreciate considerably further Oh Boy looks above average and he looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
Out of the Model Man mare Olympic Dam, Oh Boy, bred by Carl and Amanda de Vos, was a R700 000 purchase from the 2013 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale. He has a half brother, by Trippi, on offer at the Val De Vie Yearling Sale, which takes place at the end of the month.
However, he was not the only Judpot sired 3yo make a winning debut this week. His daughter Eliza Doolittle sauntered home at the Vaal on Thursday to win first time out by a whopping seven lengths. Bred by Favour Stud, Eliza Doolittle is out of the Jallad mare Karukera. Judging by the ease of this Paul Peter trained filly’s win, Eliza Doolittle looks another promising sophomore to represent her sire this season.
A former Equus Outstanding Stallion, Judpot’s sophomores this season also include the talented Cape filly Double Whammy, winner of the Gr3 Lanzerac Diana Stakes earlier this season.
Judpot, who is an A P Indy half brother to Kingmambo, has eight lots on the Val De Vie Sal. This immaculately bred son of the great Miesque has a number of really well bred youngsters on the sale, including a colt out of G2 winner Cruise Collection (bred on similar lines to the Judpot sired champion Along Came Polly), and a filly out of G1 Garden Province winner Final Claim (herself a half sister to Guineas winner Alpha Omega).
