Maine Chance Farms’ resident sire Silvano has enjoyed a fantastic run of form lately.
South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2012-2013 was at it again at Fairview when the son of Lomitas had a pair of two-year-old winners in a row.
First of the Silvano sired runners to score was debutante Nottinghamshire, who scored by an emphatic two and three quarter lengths over 1200m after jumping the 16-10 favourite. Trained by Alan Greeff, the Wilgerbosdrift bred colt was a R400 000 buy from last year’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale and Nottinghamshire (bred on the highly successful Silvano/Al Mufti cross) looks a really nice sort in the making.
Second Silvano sired juvenile to win was Kanara, who made it two wins from just three outings when saluting in a juvenile plate over 1400m at the prohibitive odds of 4-10. Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Kanara was produced by the Danehill mare Kimberley Coast.
Silvano’s other recent runners include facile G3 East Cape Derby hero St Tropze and recent Listed East Coast Cup winner Gallica Rose.
The former Arlington Million hero is also the broodmare sire of the promising German three-year-old Fair Mountain –who looks a potential German Derby contender.
The sire of 52 stakes winners to date, Silvano is a full brother to Shina– dam of the R5.2 million record yearling buy Shining Knight.
