Avontuur’s top class sire Var has enjoyed another scintillating season with his two-year-olds excelling all around South Africa and the former sprint king had yet another eye catching juvenile winner at Scottsville on Wednesday, when his daughter La Revere made a winning debut over 1000m for owners Mauritzfontein Stud.
Bred by the Varsfontein Stud, La Revere pulled clear to register a three parts of a length win at the first time of asking and she looks a smart sort in the making.
The blue blooded La Revere is out of the winning Jallad mare My Guiding Star –a half sister to the popular young sire Master Of My Fate.
The filly, a R900 000 buy from the 2015 National Yearling Sale, is the 19th individual juvenile winner for Var this season. His other notable juvenile performers include the brilliant Listed Ruffian Stakes winner Exquisite Touch and G1 SA Nursery runner up Rivarine.
Var quickly made it 20 juvenile winners for the season when his recently gelded son Victory Team won in open company just minutes after La Revere had won.
Var, sire of Equus Champions Variety Club, Val De Ra and Via Africa, is currently South Africa’s second leading sire of 2yos, with his juveniles having amassed over R1.7 million this season thus far.
The son of Forest Wildcat has also enjoyed another great year in the sales ring –Var having a colt fetch R3 000 000 at the Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale earlier in the year, while another by the sire made R2 000 000 at the 2016 National Yearling Sale.
