Juvenile feature race double for Gimmethegreenlight

Varsfontein Stud’s exciting young sire Gimmethegreenlight’s great run of success continued this weekend when the son of More Than Ready was represented by juvenile feature race double.

Rose In Bloom

Gimmethegreenlight, whose first crop has now produced six stakes winners and second crop four, got his first stakes winner of the weekend when his consistent daughter Rose In Bloom landed the Listed Highlands Stud Irridescence Stakes at Kenilworth on Saturday.

Bred by the Ridgemont Stud, Rose In Bloom, who had been previously finished runner up in the Listed Kenilworth Fillies Nursery, stayed on gamely to lift the 1500m Irridescence Stakes by three parts of a length.

Now a winner or placed in three feature races, Rose In Bloom is one of 11 juvenile winners for Gimmethegreenlight this season thus far.

Second 2yo feature race win for Gimmethegreenlight came when the Zandvliet Stud bred Flanders won Sunday’s G3 Champion Juvenile Stakes at Borrowdale.

It was a third win in a row for Flanders, who is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Captain Al cross as G1 winner Gunner.

The colt was a R300 000 purchase from last year’s CTS Ready To Run Sale Presented by Lanzerac Hotel & Spa.

Fully booked for 2017, Gimmethegreenlight has enjoyed a magnificent season this year with his star runners including G2 SA Fillies Nursery winner Green Plains and G2 Daisy Fillies Guineas winner Gimme Six –a runner in Saturday’s G1 Jonsson Workwear Garden Province Stakes.

The former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner, who had a service to him fetch R165 000 at the recent Cape Breeders Club Stallion Service Auction, has one lot on offer at this week’s KZN Yearling Sale.
