Lammerskraal’s burgeoning dynasty

Lammerskraal Stud has been and is home to some top-class broodmares and to mares who have made a huge mark on the South African turf.

Viva Maria

One of the stud’s best mares is undoubtedly five time winner and G3 Jacaranda Handicap winner Bardot, a daughter of champion sire and top broodmare sire Badger Land and winning Dowdstown Charley mare Tinseltown.

To date, seven of Bardot’s eight runners have won, with her runners including last season’s G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes third and 2017-2018 feature race hope Warrior’s Rest.
The mare’s tally also includes four stakes performers, headed by G1 Woolavington 2000 winner Viva Maria (by Jet Master). The latter, dam of the second top lot sold at this year’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale,  also won the G3 Flamboyant Stakes and was recently covered by Dynasty (sire of her R5.75 million yearling).

Viva Maria has an attractive Silvano filly yearling this season with her pricey Dynasty son (described as a “real quality horse”) being currently broken in at Lammerskraal.

Bardot is also dam of talented G2 Camellia Stakes winner Bichette and South African record holder Blizzard Belle, with both mares sired by Lammerskraal’s triple champion sire Western Winter.

Bichette, also placed in the G2 Ipi Tombe Challenge, G1 Garden Province Stakes and G3 Three Troikas Stakes, recently foaled a Silvano filly (described by Lammerskraal’s Sally Bruss as “cracking”), and goes to Var this season, while her record breaking, nine time winning own sister visited the farm’s exciting sire Visionaire this season after foaling an exquisite filly by hot young sire Querari.

Bardot, whose progeny have won an impressive 29 races thus far, herself has a yearling filly by Dynasty and is in foal to Visionaire.
