Lammerskraal are pleased to present an outstanding draft of 12 lots at the National Yearling Sale in Germiston next month. One of South Africa’s leading stud farms, Lammerskraal regularly feature highly in the lists of leading vendors at the National Sale and this year looks to be no exception if the quality of horse Lammerskraal are offering is anything to go by!

Vanished

First of the Lammerskraal into the ring is lot 18, a colt who has been named Vanished. He is a son of leading sire Var, whose champions include dual Horse Of The Year Variety Club. Vanished, who is intriguingly inbred to the great mare Crimson Saint, is a half brother to highly rated filly Zephira and is out of a winning half sister to three stakes winners – including Horse Of The Year and former Gr1 J&B Met winner Yard-Arm. This is also the family of promising young stayer Current Event, a horse who looks sure to pick up a decent prize this season.

Recall Dawn

Recall Dawn

First of the fillies up for sale, is lot 120, a bay by the name of Recall Dawn. She is a daughter of ill-fated triple champion sire Western Winter, whose Grade 1 winning daughters include Bad Girl Runs, Covenant, Fair Maiden and Roxanne. Western Winter is also the sire of this season’s sensational filly Cold As Ice, who will be racing overseas in the not too distant future. This well bred filly, bred on the same cross as Gr1 performer Kingvoldt, is out of a three time winning half sister to champion sprinter Hinterland. Hailing from the same family as champion sire Foveros, Recall Dawn is bred to be anything!

The late great Western Winter is also the sire of 143, a bay colt by the name of The Mousetrap. A half brother to a winner, his dam is a full sister to Derby winner Royal Land and a half sister to Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas winner Field Flower. A colt with a stallion’s pedigree, The Mousetrap is from the same family as US Horse Of The Year and eight times champion sire Bold Ruler.

Lammerskraal’s promising sire Go Deputy has been in good form of late, with the son of Deputy Minister’s recent winners including Egoli Mile hero Rampant Ice. He is also the sire of lot 152, a beautifully bred filly out of four time winner Flichity. The latter is a half sister to Go Deputy’s talented son Current Event, who looks a potential Gold Cup horse. This filly, named Dunhallin, is also out of a three parts sister to Horse Of The Year and multiple Gr1 winner Yard-Arm.

The ill-fated Tiger Ridge had plenty of success, ie Cherry On The Top, Wagner and Maybe Yes, prior to his untimely demise. A P Indy’s half brother is also the sire of lot 196, a well bred bay colt named Distant Places. Intensely inbred to the great Triple Crown winner Secretariat, he is out of Western Winter’s four time winning daughter Iditarod, and is bred on similar terms to the record breaking Generlissimo and the latter’s unbeaten full brother Juan Two Three.

Well bred filly Savannah Cat is lot 196, and she must surely rate as one of the best bred yearlings on sale. A half sister to a pair of smart winners, she is by champion sire Fort Wood, whose offspring include more than 40 individual Grade 1 performers. Savannah Cat is bred to be anything- her three time winning dam being a half sister to another deceased great South African stallion in Western Winter.

Fort Wood, whose daughters include the Gr1 winners Dog Wood, Kimberley Coast, Shadow Dancing and Urabamba, is also the sire of 224, a filly named Key Hostess. Bred on the same cross as the top class filly Magic Smoke, she is out of stakes placed Western Winter mare Keyra – a half sister to top class Gr2 winner Gay Regina, herself the dam of millionaire Bulsara. This is also the family of one of Fort Wood’s greatest sons, former Horse Of The Year Celtic Grove.

Next into the ring is lot 226, a bay colt named Marriot. He shares his top class sire Var with champions Variety Club, Val De Ra and Via Africa, as well as this season’s exciting 2yos Isca and Juan Two Three. A half brother to smart 3yo Kileigh, who has been entered in the Gr1 SA Fillies Classic, he is out of a three parts sister to the great champion Yard-Arm, and his third dam is former Broodmare Of The Year, Fashing.

Another exceptionally well bred colt in the Lammerskraal Stud draft is lot 273, a brown colt by triple champion sire Western Winter, sire

of outstanding males Argonaut, Ice Cube, What A Winter, Winter Solstice and Yard-Arm, to name but a few. He is out of a seven time stakes winning daughter of world leading sire Medaglia D’Oro and former champion racemare Circle Of Life, with the latter being a half sister to two Gr1 winners in African Lion and Zebra Crossing respectively. A colt with a stallion’s pedigree!

The late, great Western Winter is also the sire of lot 296, a colt named Bishop’s Bounty (pictured on the front), who looks to be one of the star lots on sale. Out of the wonderful Pas De Quoi mare Nacarat, this strapping chestnut is an own brother to all of Brutal Force, Nania, Red Ray, Valor Red and Vermilion.

Bishop’s Bounty, also a close relative of multiple Gr1 winner Set Afire and the highly promising Kingvoldt, is also a half brother to Go Deputy’s outstanding daughter Adobe Pink.

Few colts on sale have more active pedigrees than does lot 416, a bay named Varsity Cup. A son of the red hot and hugely successful sire Var, he is out of Western Winter’s classic placed daughter Strawberry Ice, which makes him a half brother to recent feature race winner and Gr1 SA Classic entrant Rampant Ice. Varsity Cup’s dam, in turn, is a full sister to Gr1 Cape Guineas hero Solo Traveller, an earner of over R1.5 million.

Viking Red, lot 447, is a really attractive and imposing colt who should prove popular. He is a son of Grade 1 winner and millionaire Go Deputy, whose recent winners include promising 3yos Desert Destiny, Kileigh and Rampant Ice. He is out of Western Winter’s high class Gr3 daughter Vermilion, an own sister to the likes of Nania and Red Ray, as well as this season’s top class 3yo Brutal Force, who has already netted nearly R1 million in stakes. Viking Red is also a brother in blood to the top class Go Deputy racemare Adobe Pink.
