|Kerry Jack of Kerry Jack Bloodstock, who is managing Louis The King’s stud career, commented on Tuesday: “Bookings to Louis The King have been steady considering the tough stallion market particularly this year.
“There is every reason in the world to give ‘Louis’ a chance. He brings an exceptional race record to stud, which would have been even better if not for injury and, as pedigree authority Karel Miedema points out, he hails from a prolific stallion producing female line.
“Champion sires Jet Master, Captain Al and Dynasty are all well performed locally bred racehorses who stood their first seasons at stud at relatively low fees. There is no reason why Louis can’t scale similar heights given some opportunities. Jet Master and Dynasty stood at R12 000 while Captain Al’s service fee was a mere R4 000 at the start of his stud career!
Louis The King’s owner and now major shareholder Tiaan van der Vyver has bought some lovely mares for him including a full sister to KZN Derby winner Cape Speed. Others booked at this stage include black type filly Bursary, Aretha (the dam of exported Nocturnal Affair) and some super mares by champion sire Trippi including a daughter of Mitra (a sister to Champion sprinter Val de Rae). Good support is also coming from his breeder The Alchemy as well as Gary Player stud, who is a shareholder.
Louis The King stands at Terry and Annabel Andrews’ Sorrento Stud in Agter-Paarl, Western Cape.
