Sorrento Stud’s exciting young stallion Louis The King has let down into a truly magnificent stallion, as these photos (kind courtesy of Hamish Niven) clearly indicate.
The former Triple Crown winner, whose first foals arrive this year, has a superb temperament and is also proving very fertile –and Louis The King clearly looks ready for the upcoming breeding season.
One of the best horses of his generation, Louis The King won or placed in 11 of 15 outings and earned (bonuses excluded) over R5 million in prize money.
The versatile galloper won from 1400-2450m, with his wins including not only the Triple Crown (G2 Gauteng Guineas, G1 SA Classic and G1 SA Derby) but also the G1 Summer Cup.
Louis The King won or placed in nine features and accounted for such G1 winners as Captain America, Forest Indigo, Gold Onyx, Power King and Horse of The Year Legislate.
One of more than 60 stakes horses sired by Storm Cat’s dual G1 winner Black Minnaloushe, Louis The King (bred on the same Storm Cat sire/Rich Man’s Gold cross as recent G1 winner Brave Mary) traces back in female line to the legendary racemare and producer Pretty Polly –also ancestress of champion sires Nearctic, Cape Cross, Northern Taste, Great Nephew, and past South African champions Sybil’s Nephew and Abadan II.
(Current red hot sire Iffraaj is another top class sire descended from Pretty Polly).
Louis The King is bidding to bid in the footsteps of numerous other top class South African bred horses, such as Captain Al, Dynasty, Jet Master and What A Winter, who have gone on to become top class sires.
He will stand for a fee of R10 000 in 2017, and interested parties are asked to contact Kerry Jack or Terry Andrews for more information.
