Moutonshoek’s beautifully bred young sire Marchfield continues to make waves in Canada. The champion son of A P Indy is comfortably clear on the Leading Second Season Sires list for the year thus far.
Marchfield’s stream of early winners include the likes of Hollyisindependent, Field Of Courage as well as the classy stakes performer Bear’s Courage, and he looks on track to become the next successful sire son of A P Indy.
This list includes the likes of Bernardini, Malibu Moon, Pulpit as well as the very successful South African sire Judpot, and Marchfield’s record should only get better with time – as he himself did.
Remarkably, the A P Indy male line accounted for all three legs of the 2014 US Triple Crown winner – Kentucky Derby/Preakness Stakes hero California Chrome being by Pulpit son Lucky Pulpit and Belmont Stakes victor Tonalist by the magnificent Pulpit sired sensation Tapit.
Marchfield, who has covered some excellent mares in his first two seasons in South Africa, had the race record to match his extraordinary pedigree.
A millionaire and classic winner, Marchfield was Canada’s Champion Older Male in 2008 and 2009. He won or placed in no fewer than nine stakes races, and had the precocity to place in one of Canada’s principal juvenile races – the Coronation Futurity (a race won previously by history’s greatest sire Northern Dancer).
From an outstanding female line (Marchfield’s immediate relatives include not only successful sires Cryptoclearance and Harlan’s Holiday, but also the hugely promising young sire and top sprinter Equiano), Marchfield surely has all it takes to make a top class stallion.
