More Grade One glory for exciting Judpot
Varsfontein Stud’s sensational young sire Judpot was once again in the news following daughter Along Came Polly’s fluent win in Friday night’s Gr1 L Jaffee Empress Club Stakes. In landing Friday night’s Gr1 contest, Along Came Polly accounted for an exceptional group of fillies which included Equus Champion Cherry On The Top, Fillies Guineas winner Arcetri Pink, and other high-class stakes winners Jet Aglow, Espumanti and Festival Of Fire.

Along Came Polly, who was last season’s Equus Champion 2YO Filly, took her earnings to over R1.5 million following her victory in the R1 million Empress Club Stakes. Now a dual Grade One winner, Along Came Polly has won or placed in six Grade One contests, and looks unlikely to stop here.

A R60 000 buy at the 2012 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, Along Came Polly is owned by Brian Burnard and trained by Gavin Van Zyl. She is out of the winning Model Man mare Perfect Polly – a half-sister to Equus Champion Young Rake.

Along Came Polly is one of six stakes horses from Judpot’s first crop. This crop also includes fellow Grade One winner Forest Indigo, as well as the ill-fated Mister Cricket (2nd Gr1 SA Classic). On the back of this crop’s success, Judpot was named South Africa’s Equus Outstanding Stallion for 2013.

His second crop, now 2, include seven horses who have either won or finished in the money. This crop also includes impressive, and unbeaten, debut winner Just Lucky.

Judpot (A P Indy – Miesque) is well represented on the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, where he has 24 lots on offer. However, following Friday night, one lot really catches the eye.

Lot 449 is bound to appeal to buyers – as this filly is very closely related to Along Came Polly herself.

Like the multiple Grade One winner, this filly (named Playboy Buddy) is by Judpot out of a granddaughter of high-class Grade 3 winner Young Polly. This well bred filly also hails from the family of Gr1 winner Master Plan (subsequently exported to Dubai), and champion filly Rock Opera (dam of high-class British 2yo Heavy Metal).
