Rosedene’s red hot sire Greys Inn was back in the news this weekend when his charismatic son King Of Pain landed the G3 CTS Chairman’s Cup.
The talented grey, former winner of the G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge, was given a superb front running by jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe to win the R250 000 race by one and three quarter lengths from Three Balloons and last year’s winner Coltrane.
Bred by Arc-En-Ciel Stud, King Of Pain stopped the clock in a time of 218.72. The six-year-old, who has banked over R1.83 million, has now won eight times, with his previous victories including the G1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge (over champions Beach Beauty and Yorker), G2 Selangor Cup, and G3 Langerman.
His July winning son Greys Inn has been enjoying a tremendous run of success, with his runners excelling in both South Africa and Dubai.
Greys Inn, a former Equus Champion who competed at the top level around the world, is currently above the likes of Fort Wood, Sail From Seattle, and Visionaire on the general sires list, with his local runners having banked over R3.5 million for the 2015-2016 season thus far.
The son of deceased sire great Zabeel’s top performer this season has been G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate winner Legal Eagle (who also finished a creditable second in the G1 J&B Met), while another son of Greys Inn, the Wicklow Stud bred Forries Waltz looks on track to compete on Dubai World Cup night next month following two impressive consecutive wins in Dubai.
Forries Waltz, winner of the Listed Gatecrasher Stakes at two, has won five of six starts to date, with his biggest win having come in the G2 Al Rashidiya, where he accounted for former G1 Investec Cape Derby winner Ertijaal by a length and a quarter.
His sire Greys Inn has four yearlings on offer at next month’s CTS March Yearling Sale:
