Drakenstein Stud’s top class resident sire, Duke Of Marmalade, was represented by his 28th individual stakes winner when his sophomore daughter Responsibleforlove was successful in Saturday’s Listed Premio Mario Incisa Della Rocchetta.
The filly, who is one of seven black type performers for her sire this year, put daylight between herself and runner up Edya to win the 2000m by one and a half lengths, with third place finisher Dry Your Eyes another two lengths away.
The talented Responsibleforlove has now won three of just four outings and she looks a really progressive sort in the making.
Her sire Duke Of Marmalade enjoyed a real purple patch of success in 2015, when his major winners included no fewer than four European classic winners, namely Nutan (G1 Deutsches Derby), Sound Of Freedom (G3 Premio Regina Elena), Star of Seville (G1 Prix de Diane) and subsequent Carter Champion Simple Verse (G1 Ladbrokes St Leger).
The latter, who has won or placed in eight of her nine career outings and earned over £800 000, stays in training this year and holds entries in the G1 Coronation Cup, G1 Gold Cup and G2 Hardwicke Stakes, with connections hoping to run their champion in Britain’s premier Weight-For-Age race –the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Duke Of Marmalade, himself a former Cartier Champion, was an exceptional racehorse, with his 6 victories including five consecutive Group One triumphs.
The Duke’s five G1 triumphs were the G1 Prix Ganay, G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup, G1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and G1 Juddmonte International Stakes.
This regally bred horse, his half brother Ruler Of The World won the G1 Investec Derby in 2013 and currently stands at Coolmore, had his eagerly awaited first South African crop of foals arrive last year, and will be represented by his first local yearlings in 2017.
