More success for in-form champion sire

Reigning champion sire Captain Al was once again to the fore at Kenilworth on Saturday. This time the champion was making news as the sire of a filly recording her second consecutive feature race win.

His 3yo daughter Captain’s Flame, who was bred by the Cheveley Stud, made it four wins from just six outings when she won the Listed Stormsvlei Mile at Kenilworth on Saturday, to add to her previous success in the Listed RTT Sweet Chestnut Stakes.
This progressive filly, who races for owner Sabine Plattner, now looks likely to head to KZN for the Winter Season, where she could be aimed at the G1 Garden Province Stakes.

Captain’s Flame is a full sister to Captain Al’s top class daughter, Fragrant Al, whose five wins included the G2 Tibouchina Stakes, and she is also closely related to Captain Al’s top class son Barbosa –who ran third to the Captain Al sired Carry On Alice in the G1 World Sports Betting Computaform Sprint.

Remarkably, the Stormsvlei Mile was the 21st stakes win for a Captain Al sired runner this season.

Major races won by the progeny of Captain Al this season include the G1 SA Nursery, G1 WSB Computaform Sprint, G2 Hawaii Stakes, G2 Horses For Causes Sceptre Stakes, G3 Magnum Cape Classic, G3 East Cape Derby, G3 Strelitzia Stakes and G3 Pretty Polly Stakes.

Captain Al’s progeny also enjoyed notable success at Saturday’s Racing Association Feature Season Awards, where his daughters Cloth Of Cloud and Carry On Alice were named Champion 2YO Filly and Champion Sprinter respectively.

South Africa’s dominant sire of two-year-old talent (he is currently on course to record his eighth consecutive leading sire of 2yos title), Captain Al has one yearling on offer at the upcoming Klawervlei Farm Sale:

Lot 86 –this colt, an own brother to a useful three time winner, is out of stakes winner and G2 SA Fillies Guineas runner up School Assembly and is from the same family as G1 winner Fanciful. The Captain Al/National Assembly cross has produced high class filly Trinity House, as well as G3 winner Flower’s Angel, and stakes winner Pure Power.

Captain Al also has one lot on offer at next month’s Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale:

Lot 90 –this filly is out of a half sister to G2 SA Fillies Nursery winner Hidden Beauty (who, like the filly on sale, is by a son of Al Mufti). Also the family of champions Imperious Sue and Victory Moon
