More success for Silvano

Maine Chance Farms’ resident sire Silvano was once again in the news this past weekend.
Just days after Silvano sons ran 1-2-3 in the Gr1 Vodacom Durban July, Silvano was once making news as the the sire of a graded winner in Southern Africa on Sunday.

However, this time it was a daughter of the former Gr1 Arlington Million winner who stole the show.

Silvano’s Cheveley Park bred daughter Equina picked up the tenth win of her career when she won the Gr3 Republic Cup at Borrowdale on Sunday.
Last season’s Zimbabwean Horse Of The Year ran on strongly under Karl Zechner to prevail by a neck in the 1900m contest, and took her tally of feature race wins to six in the process.

Equina, who was produced by the Al Mufti mare Winning Touch, was one of four winners in Southern Africa over the weekend for Silvano, who currently is third on the South African General Sires Log. The former champion could well end up higher on the log before the end of the season, as he has four potential runners in the Gr1 Gold Cup and three entries in the Gr1 Champions Cup on July 25th.

Silvano’s other winners this weekend included the highly promising 2yos Marinaresco and Silver Mountain, who scored for trainer Mike Bass at Kenilworth on Saturday.

To date, Silvano (who is best known as a sire of classic performers and high class older horses) has been represented by seven individual 2yo winners in 2014-2015, including the highly rated Silver Mountain (regarded as a potential classic contender) and the stakes fillies Kanara and Star Express.

The Silvano impact is unlikely to end anytime soon, with his champion son Bold Silvano set to have his first runners next season, and another champion son, Vercingetorix, set to cover his first book of mares in 2015.

Silvano has one lot on offer at next month’s CTS August 2YO Sale- a well bred filly whose Al Mufti sired dam is a three parts sister to the G1 winning siblings Al Nitak and The Sheik (Lot 71).
The Lomitas son’s BSA 2YO Sale contingent of five include a three parts sister to former G2 Dingaans winner Silver Flyer (Lot 104), a colt from the family of champions Ali-Royal and Sleepytime (Lot 154), and a brother in blood to recent July winner Power King (Lot 174).
