National 2yo Sale kicks off on Thursday

National 2yo Sale kicks off on Thursday
The 2013 Emperors Palace National 2yo Sale is set to kick off at Germiston on Thursday August 15th.
The two day sale concludes on Friday the 16th. A nicely balanced catalogued consists of 357 lots (following seven withdrawals), featuring a wide variety of pedigrees from a number of top stud farms.

This sale has a long history of producing outstanding prospects for a range of prices.

Recent star graduates include last season’s Gr1 Champions Cup hero Jackson (Dynasty), likely Arlington Million contender The Apache and top Singapore galloper Flax. Other champions and Grade One winners to have graduated from the 2yo sale include All Afire, Asylum Seeker,  Fez, Night Diva, Rock Opera, Talahatchie and Zaitoon.

The 2yo sale has also produced a number of outstanding international performers including the aforementioned The Apache and Flax, as well as Cerise Cherry, Dane Julia, Irridescence, J J The Jet Plane, Lizarre and River Jetez.

Many of the country’s top farms are strongly represented on the sale, as are South Africa’s leading sires.
The sale also offers buyers an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire the last offspring of the great sire Jet Master. The latter, champion sire six times in South Africa, has four lots on offer, and they will, no doubt, prove very popular.

Silvano, who dethroned Jet Master by becoming the country’s leading sire in 2012-2013, is another outstanding stallion well represented on the 2yo sale. He has 11 lots on offer, including a full brother to last season’s classy 3yo Act Fast, and a half-brother to the very quick filly, Kinematic Countess.

Other top sires represented on the 2yo sale include Captain Al (4), Dynasty (10), Kahal (1), Trippi (4), Var (3) and Western Winter (2).

Exceptional young sires Antonius Pius (13) and Judpot (16) are both well represented on the sale, and their progeny are sure to be popular.
Antonius Pius, the country’s leading first crop sire for 2012-2013 by prize money, has a full sister to Ace Antonius, winner of the inaugural KZN Yearling Sales Million, on sale, while Judpot has a colt out of stakes winning sister to champion Young Rake, among his star studded draft.

Other promising young sires represented at this year’s 2yo sale include Jay Peg (4), Rebel King (3) and Sail From Seattle (16).

Stallions represented by their first juveniles racing this season include A P Answer (14), Brave Tin Soldier (3), Elusive Fort (5), Fort Beluga (7), Ideal World (2), King’s Apostle (1), Lateral (12), Mambo In Seattle (3), Scarlet Letter (3) and Seventh Rock (3).

CEO Tom Callaghan is excited by the catalogue and positive about the sale. He says, “With a catalogue of 350 horses that is represented by all the leading stallion power in South Africa both established and up and coming we have breadth, depth and value that our loyal patrons have come to expect from this established and well supported sale.

The uptick in our local bloodstock market is great for our sport and shows the continued passion and vision of the supporters of our game.

This sale has produced the likes of Jackson, Flax and The Apache and we will unearth some more world class athletes on this sale and this sale looks sure to be a sell out so get your seat early and we look forward to hosting you all for this years Emperors Palace National Two Year Old Sale.”
