Lammerskraal Stud’s exciting young sire Visionaire was represented by an eye catching feature race winner at Greyville on Sunday.
His son Africa Rising, who is from Visionaire’s second South African crop, picked up a well deserved feature race win when successful in the G3 Byerley Turk at Greyville.
Trained by champion conditioner Sean Tarry, the Summerhill Stud bred colt was making his first racetrack appearance since contesting last December’s G1 Grand Parade Cape Guineas. Africa Rising, who was given a superb ride by Lyle Hewitson, tracked favourite Copper Force in the running of Sunday’s 1400m feature, before pouncing in the closing stages to score by three parts of a length over favourite and CTS Mile runner up Copper Force.
Africa Rising, who races for Chris Van Niekerk and Portapa (Pty) Ltd t/a Supabets, has now won three of eight outings and has earned over R900 000 in prize money.
Bred by Summerhill Stud, Africa Rising was a R625 000 buy from the 2015 CTS Johannesburg Ready To Run Sale.
Visionaire, whose G1 daughter Visuality ran a good second to the G1 bound Al Danza on Saturday, has a superb draft on offer at the upcoming Emperors Palace Select Yearling Sale. The son of Grand Slam’s ten strong draft at the upcoming sale includes a colt from the same family as champions Wavering Girl, Singspiel, and Glorious Song (Lot 4), a half-sister to G2 winner Intergalactic (Lot 5), and a colt out of Golden Slipper winner Dignify (Lot 93).
Visionaire also has 16 lots on the 2017 National Yearling Sale including a filly out of G3 winner La Pucelle (Lot 4), a filly out of champion Legally Blonde (Lot 14), a half-brother to G1 performer Fenerbahce (Lot 173), and a colt out of stakes winning speedball Comtesse Dubois (Lot 343).
