Maine Chance Farms’ resident sire Silvano, who currently heads the South African sires list, has set an all time record for stakes earned by one sire’s progeny in season.

At the time of writing, Silvano’s progeny, this season, have earned over R16 600 000 – thus surpassing the previous record set by the mighty Jet Master.

The son of Lomitas, who looks set to win his first general sires title this season, has had a truly magnificent season. Silvano has been represented by a staggering nine stakes winners this season – five of whom captured Gr1 races.

Vercingetorix and Do You Remember gave their sire a superb Gr1 double, when landing the Daily News 2000 and Woolavington Stakes on the same day.

Silvano sons, Martial Eagle and Heavy Metal, won two of South Africa’s greatest races, the Gr1 J&B Met and Gr1 President’s Champion Challenge.

His Gr1 winners this season have come over a range of trips – from 1200m to 2000m, and Silvano’s runners this season also include Gr1 SA Derby runner up (and possible July contender) Gothic. His brilliant, unbeaten filly Happy Valentine was purchased by Team Valor following her stunning victory in the Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship.

What a stallion!
